Early morning walks are one of my favorite things. A few Sundays past I walked around Oathill Lake and the sun was just beginning to melt the ice that had formed overnight on the lake. It was a beautiful clear blue.
Open water was forming in areas at the edges of the shady eastern shore and thicker (one presumes) ice farther out in the lake. Little waves lapped at the edge of the ice and floated up over the ice. The water advanced slowly, but steadily over several minutes – rather like the tide. A few more pictures are posted in flickr.
